Acupuncture and moxibustion consist in the stimulation of certain points of the body with the curative, preventive or palliative purpose. Stimulation is done by puncture, pressure or heat (moxibustion).
We talk about pediatric acupuncture when these therapeutic techniques are adapted and applied to children. Non-invasive techniques are often used and, when necessary, the punctures are made very delicately, with very fine needles so that the treatment is painless.
Some of the pediatric pathologies that can be treated with acupuncture are:
• In the digestive field: infant colic, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, discomfort from teething.
• In the respiratory field: otitis, recurrent bronchitis, viral infections, asthma.
• In the dermatological field: diaper rash, atopic eczema, warts.
• Sound disorders
Sometimes, and especially when treating newborns, it is convenient to treat the mother. Maternal acupuncture is also useful during pregnancy: nausea, constipation, ciatalgia …, and during the puerperium and lactation can help with problems such as hypogalactia, mastitis or emotional disturbances.
In any case it is important to assess the child in an integrative way and treat it in the most appropriate way to the pathology and individual characteristics according to the medical criteria, who will assess the need to perform acupuncture treatment in conjunction with the treatments offered by conventional medicine or other compatible therapies.
